Oscar-nominated actor Mickey Rourke thinks Tom Cruise is an “irrelevant” and overrated chump of an actor – regardless of how much money “Top Gun: Maverick” has managed to gross at the box office.

You see, there are two types of actors in Hollywood: legitimate thespians (fancy talk for people who can actually act) and movie stars (people who are sexy but only play themselves).

For example…

Legitimate Thespians:

  • Dustin Hoffman
  • Robert De Niro
  • Robert Downey Jr.
  • Anthony Hopkins
  • Marlon Brando (not acting anymore)
  • Morgan Freeman
  • Brad Pitt
  • Gary Oldman
  • Johnny Depp
  • Bradley Cooper
  • Kevin Bacon

Movie Stars Who Can’t Act But Make Blockbuster Films:

  • Tom Cruise

And no one is more qualified to call a movie star who can’t act “irrelevant” than an irrelevant actor who can act – Mickey Rourke commenting on Tom Cruise, for example.

“The guy’s been doing the same f’ing part for 35 years, you know?” Rourke eloquently shared on an episode of Piers Morgan Uncensored when asked about Cruise’s “Top Gun” sequel crossing the $1 billion mark at the global box office. “I got no respect for that. Really, brother. I don’t care about money and power. I care about when I watch Al Pacino working, Chris Walken, [Robert] De Niro’s early work, Richard Harris’ work, Ray Winstone’s work — that’s the kind of actor I want to be, like Monty Clift, [Marlon] Brando back in the day. A lot of guys that just tried to stretch as actors.”

When Morgan asked Rourke if he thinks Cruise is a good actor or not, Rourke responded: “I think he’s irrelevant, in my world.”

Rourke is now being hunted by the Church of Scientology. He’ll undoubtedly be dead by the end of the week.

Rest in Peace, Mickey.
