Track Dude Michael Young Previews IndyCar’s Freedom 250 in DC
The Freedom 250 Grand Prix in Washington, D.C. is shaping up to be one of the most historic moments in the IndyCar series. This weekend, fans will gather at US Capitol to witness a once in a lifetime IndyCar race…. around the National Mall!
The “Track Dude,” Michael Young called in to the Hammer and Nigel Show to talk about how he is gearing up for the busy weekend. “It’s going to be an exciting race weekend for sure,” he says. “The Metro Police, the DC Police have been fantastic and everyone is overly ecstatic and welcoming for this event.”
Young gave us a little insider tip that D.C. is going big to celebrate this event. “They’re going to be circling the DC area and there will be seven flyovers throughout the pre-race festivities.” But that’s not all – an eagle will also make an appearance, flying down to the start-finish line! HAPPY BIRTHDAY ‘MERICA
The track itself is a 1.7-mile course with six left-hand turns and one right-hand turn, making it a fast and challenging course for the drivers. “From turn one down to turn two, they’ll be doing 180 miles an hour,” Young notes. The surface is also expected to be bumpy, which could lead to some exciting moments on the track.
The event is also a celebration of American spirit, with President Trump set to make an appearance and wave a green flag. “Let’s just get rid of the politics and try to do something without weighing in on what side of the aisle you’re on,” Young says. “If you can’t walk out of this weekend feeling proud to be an American, then I don’t know what to say.”
