IMPD Releases Bodycam From 2024 Hostage Standoff
INDINAPOLIS — IMPD has released bodycam video showing what happened before officers shot a man during a hostage situation on Indianapolis’ north side.
Police were called to an apartment on River Road in September 2024 after someone reported a woman was being held against her will.
Officers spent about 10 minutes trying to get 63-year-old Grant Brown to come outside. When they went into the apartment, police say Brown opened fire.
Two officers shot Brown, hitting him twice. The woman got out safely, and no officers or other civilians were hurt.
The woman later told police Brown had threatened her, saying, “Tell them you’re okay or I’m going to shoot you.”
Brown was convicted of attempted murder and other charges and was sentenced to 38 years in prison last month.
