INDIANAPOLIS — A Missouri truck driver will spend nine years in prison for causing a crash on I-465 that killed a woman and her twin daughters last July.

Bruce Pollard, of Sturgeon, Mo., is responsible for the crash that killed Alanna Koons and her 18-month-old twin daughters, June and Ruby, and seriously injured several others.

In January, Pollard pleaded guilty but mentally ill to three counts of Reckless Homicide, one count of Reckless Operation of a Vehicle in a Highway Work Zone, and seven counts of Reckless Driving.

Investigators said Pollard ignored signs warning of a construction zone and was speeding when he slammed into Koons’ car and other stopped vehicles near the Keystone Ave. interchange. Investigators believe Pollard was going 65 mph at the time of the crash.

Pollard will serve his sentence in an Indiana Department of Correction facility with access to mental health facilities.
