What’s the old saying about how no good deed goes unpunished?

Reports trickling out of the Vatican claim Pope Francis has come down with a “slight indisposition,” forcing him to cancel a planned Mass in Rome.

The news comes just a day after the Pope expressed his solidarity with coronavirus sufferers around the world, but Vatican officials have refused to comment on whether Pope Francis has been tested for the disease.

“This morning the pontiff did not go to St. John Lateran basilica for the Penitential Mass with Roman clergy,” Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni said in a statement.

“Due to a light indisposition, he preferred to stay near [his Vatican residence] Santa Marta. Other duties are proceeding regularly.”

Bruni declined to respond to questions of whether or not Pope Francis will be tested for coronavirus, which has infected 650 people in Italy

Concern over the Pope’s well-being circulated on social media after he was seen coughing and blowing his nose during Ash Wednesday celebrations, in which he greeted people without a mask.

On Sunday he interacted with 40,000 people in Bari, hugging and kissing those in the crowds after expressing his support for those infected by coronavirus and the health workers treating them.
