CLINTON COUNTY, Ind.–A pickup truck was hit by a train in Clinton County Tuesday afternoon. Three people in the truck survived.

It happened at County Road 750W, near Gas Line Road. That is not far from the Town of Mulberry.

The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office says 65-year-old Lora Elston of Battleground, Indiana was driving a blue 2006 Ford pickup truck northbound and entered into the path of and collided with a Norfolk Southern Railroad train that was going westbound.

Police say the truck went into the train’s path “for an unknown reason.” They are looking into that. 

There was a 7-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy in the truck with Elton. The girl was taken to a hospital in Indianapolis. Both Elston and the boy were taken by ambulance to a hospital in Lafayette.

The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Clinton County Central Dispatch, Mulberry Volunteer Fire Department, Norfolk Southern Railroad, Tippecanoe Sheriff’s Office, Clinton County EMS, Stat Flight, and Miller’s Towing.
