I was standing on the 3rd floor balcony at the Emmis building looking out onto Monument Circle while down below Indy Roof had their trucks precisely lined up while the staff were getting their pictures taken. The area makes for a fantastic backdrop for pictures. It got me thinking about other best spots in Indy to take pictures…

These Are Indianapolis’ Most Photogenic Areas According To Yelp

Kawachinagano Japanese Garden:

Located just south of the Carmel City Center, the Japanese style garden is small but offers an arch, a small stone path, flowers and a pond with lots of fish and birds.

Monon Trail Love Train:

This is a very long mural that is the work of The Department of Public Words. The mural runs along the Monon Trail and was completed in 2014 after 8 months of work.

Garfield Park Conservatory and Sunken Garden:

Filled with more than 800 orchids, the conservatory offers a warm spot even on cold days. While the nursery is smaller, the price of admission is low too at just $3.

Indianapolis Canal Walk:

The loop will wind past museums, The NCAA hall of Champions, paddle boats, bikes, grassy spots and benches. Each underpass has giant murals on each side of the canal and the water will add movement to any picture.

Coxhall Gardens:

Featuring a huge, gorgeous amphitheater, Coxhall Gardens look like something from ancient Grecian times but the gardens also present notable clock towers and beautiful landscaping.  Located in west Carmel, the property is now managed by the Hamilton County Parks and Rec.

Shadowbox Butterflies:

Highlighting butterflies native to Indiana, the mural’s detail is as astonishing as its scale. Found at 172 E. South Street, you’ll marvel at the hyper-realistic detail and deep color.

Highland Park:

In the Holy Cross neighborhood, this park bids a great view of the Indianapolis skyline.  The small park spans about 4 acres and is the site of Indianapolis’ 2nd highest elevation. Consider going in the evening to catch great sunset pictures during the golden hour.
