California Gov. Gavin Newsom is facing pushback as state lawmakers have begun demanding details of his nearly $1 billion deal to receive 200 million masks per month from a Chinese manufacturer “Build Your Dreams” (BYD), which also makes really crappy buses that don’t run.

Gov. Newsom, who famously destroyed the great city of San Francisco during his reign as the city’s duly-elected Führer, declined multiple requests from the Los Angeles Times about the agreement, which was signed with the builder of overpriced, underperforming street ornaments earlier this month.

Know Your Crappy Bus Builders: BYD was formed in 1995 as a battery manufacturer. In 2008, Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway purchased a 24.8% stake in the company. Despite its growth under Buffett, the company recently announced it saw a 42% drop in profits from 2019, citing numerous cuts to government subsidies and changes to emissions rules in China.

Question: How bad do your busses have to be if you’re failing emissions requirements in CHINA?

Know Your Crappy Bus Builders, Advanced Level Learning: Around the same time that BYD announced they were about to go under, the company said on its website that it had converted one of its manufacturing facilities into “the world’s largest mass-produced face masks plant,” adding that it would make 5 million masks per day in the fight against the spread of the virus… and then Gov. Newsom bought $1 billion in masks…

Let’s hope they’re better at masks than buses.
