SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Both men accused of trying to rob a house in South Bend left their photo IDs at the scene, say South Bend Police.

Robert Baker, 20, and Delron Patterson, 20, are accused of breaking into a house on Illinois Street on July 23.

Police say that when Baker and Patterson started shooting, a woman inside the home returned fire.

The two men ran and were in such a hurry that neither of them realized they had dropped their ID cards.

Police arrived and found Baker’s ID on the ground near a car parked outside the house. Officers were able to match the name on the card with the name of a man who had arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound.

South Bend Police say Baker admitted that he and Patterson had broken into the home to steal marijuana, reports WNDU.

Patterson’s ID was found behind the house by the homeowner.

Baker and Patterson are both charged with attempted armed robbery.
