GRANGER, Ind. — An 11-year-old boy from Granger who shot and wounded his father, an Indiana State Trooper, has been charged with attempted murder.

The boy, whose name is not being made public due to his age, is being charged as a juvenile.

Police say the shooting happened at the family’s home in Granger on Feb. 21. The trooper, who was off-duty at the time, was shot in the lower body. He survived and is recovering at an area hospital.

The prosecutor’s office said it will not release details about the gun used, including whether it was the trooper’s service weapon, because of the ongoing police investigation.
