COLUMBUS, Ind.–Customers who went to Mark Pi’s China Gate restaurant in Columbus recently are being told to get vaccinated for Hepatitis A.
An employee at the restaurant was diagnosed with Hepatitis A. Now, the state health department is telling anyone who ate there between May 15 and May 20, to get the Hep A vaccine.
Mark Pi’s China Gate is still open and has been disinfected thoroughly. The restaurant is working with the health department to prevent anymore issues with Hep A.
The health department recommends you speak with your doctor if you think you’re experiencing symptoms from the disease.
Hepatitis A is a viral infection of the liver that can cause loss of appetite, nausea, tiredness, fever, stomach pain, brown urine and light-colored stools. Yellowing of the skin and eyes can also happen. You can become ill up to seven weeks after being exposed to it.
In addition to getting the vaccine, those affected should also:
- Monitor their health for symptoms of hepatitis A infection up to 50 days after exposure
- Wash their hands with soap and warm water frequently and thoroughly, especially after using the bathroom or handling food
- Stay at home and contact their healthcare provider immediately if symptoms develop.
