Reflecting on 5 Year Anniversary of Indy Riots
Five years ago today, downtown Indianapolis saw two nights of out-of-control riots that overtook the streets and destroyed businesses.
Arson, looting, vandalism, and two deaths occurred as a direct result of a major lack of leadership by local elected officials. In the summer of 2020, protests broke out through the streets of downtown Indianapolis in the name of the death of George Floyd. However, protesters went home at the end of the day but when the sun set those looking to destroy and riot the city wreaked lawlessness.
Hammer and Nigel reflect on this dark time for the city, their personal experiences, and discuss what questions are still left unanswered (i.e. WHERE WAS MAYOR HOGSETT?)
IMPD Chief Chris Bailey joined the show to talk about his experience as an officer on duty during the weekend of the riots, what the IMPD has learned, and more.
Indy Fraternal Order of Police President Rick Snyder voiced his frustration with local city officials lack-of leadership that summer and what he would like to see change.
While we remember, reflect, and learn from the events of five years ago, we do want to thank all the officers and first responders who did step up in a time when the city needed them the most.
