Americans Spend Big on Mom for Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day falls on Sunday, May 11 this year. A new YouGov survey of 500 American mothers offers helpful insight on Mother’s Day requests: the most-wanted gift isn’t fancy or expensive—it’s a simple meal out.

The survey found that 36% of moms would like to be taken out for drinks or a meal. That was followed by flowers (31%), something handmade (29%), a gift card (28%), and a greeting card (24%).

Most moms (60%) said they want to spend time with their children on Mother’s Day. Others would enjoy going out (42%), staying home (32%), visiting family (31%), or even having some alone time (20%). One list from MommyPoppins.com adds a clean house and sleep.

Spending for the holiday remains high. The National Retail Federation expects Americans to spend $33.5 billion this year, with an average of $254 per person.

So, what are people buying? Uber Eats reports that roses were the top flower choice in most states. In Indiana, a combination of roses and lilies took the lead.

If flowers aren’t your thing, Uber Eats says the most popular gift basket items last year were chocolate-dipped strawberries, or brownies.

Uber Eats also reported that fragrances were a top beauty gift for moms.
