Walorski Attends Paid Time Off Summit, Says the Federal Government Has Set an Example

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The National Defense Authorization Act mandates federal government employees get 12 weeks paid time off for parental leave. Indiana’s Rep. Jackie Walorski (R), told the Paid Time Off Summit in Washington, that the federal government has set an example, but that private companies can follow suit without being required to.

“I am grateful the National Defense Authorization Act has actually put a set in stone example of where we’re heading in this country, in a bi-partisan arena,” she said to the panel, which included Ivanka Trump.

“Using the private market as a partner, there’s a lot of companies out there in this country that have paid parental leave.”

Walorski said making sure women get off the sidelines and back into the working economy is a way to secure the economy and the job market.
