NASSAU, BAHAMAS.–The Louisville Cardinals trounced the Indiana Hoosier men’s basketball team at the Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas on Wednesday afternoon 89-61.
The loss is the first of the season for Indiana to drop their record to 4-1. Louisville led the entire way and they are also 4-1. They shot 57% from the field while the Hoosiers only made 33% of their field goal attempts.
Louisville outscored Indiana 52-32 in the second half after leading the Hoosiers by 8 at halftime. The Hoosiers were plagued by 23 turnovers that led to 30 points for the Cardinals.
“We had nothing for Louisville. They played extremely well. We have to go back and regroup. I’m not going to let us forget this game because this was embarrassing,” said Indiana’s Head Coach Mike Woodson.
Woodson also stressed the need for the team to do better defensively.
“We couldn’t make shots. We turned the ball over. It just led to easy buckets for them. Once they got the cushion, they felt good about their play. This is something that we’re going to have to learn from,” said Woodson.
Malik Reneau led the Hoosiers in the defeat with 21 points and seven rebounds.
“I had a couple of mistakes myself. It was a lack of focus towards the scout we had,” said Reneau.
Louisville finished with four players in double figures scoring. They were led by Chucky Hepburn and Noah Waterman who each scored 16 points.
The Hoosiers are back in action at 2:30 pm on Thursday.
