INDIANAPOLIS–There have been developments for Indianapolis drivers who commute through downtown and the northeast side.

In a major step forward for the North Split reconstruction project, traffic will shift to the newly constructed “flyover bridge” starting today. The newly completed bridge will connect southbound I-65 to eastbound I-70 while taking drivers from downtown to the east side and will be the largest bridge and the highest point of Indiana’s second most traveled interchange.

Also opening with the flyover bridge is the on-ramp from Delaware St./11 St. to eastbound I-70. The downtown-to-east side ramp has been closed for the duration of the North Split rebuild since construction began in May of last year. The entire project is expected to finish around Thanksgiving.

Drivers on the northeast side can expect more congestion and headaches when the ramp from northbound Binford Blvd. to westbound I-465 shuts down this Tuesday. The closure is part of the “Clear Path 465” construction project and is the first of three long-term ramp closures happening this summer, including the closure of the entry ramp from Allisonville Rd. to eastbound I-465 and the entry ramp from Shadeland Ave./E. 56th St. to northbound I-465. Tuesday’s closure – the Binford Blvd. to westbound I-465 ramp – is expected to remain closed for three years, or until July of 2025.

When completed, Clear Path will add travel lanes to I-465 from White River to Fall Creek and reconfigure the highly traveled I-69/I-465 interchange. Portions of I-69 from 82nd St. to I-465 will be reconstructed as well. All improvements are expected to open to traffic by the end of 2025.
