WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — A man took his own life Friday morning by jumping over a railing at a West Lafayette medical complex.

Dakshina Moorthy Kothandapani, 44, jumped head-first over the second-floor railing inside the IU Health Arnett family medicine complex, according to Tippecanoe County Coroner Carrie Costello.

People working in the building tried to give aid to Kothandapanai after he jumped, according to The Journal & Courier.

The family medicine offices in the building at Sagamore Parkway West were closed Friday morning, West Lafayette police told The Journal & Courier.

IU Health Arnett said Friday that the urgent care facility in the building remained open, according to The Journal & Courier, but patients with appointments in the family medicine offices were being rescheduled.

The reason why Kothandapani jumped over the railing is unknown.
