INDIANAPOLIS — More than a dozen people are without a home after an apartment fire on Indy’s south side Monday night.
Just before 10:00 p.m. flames were shooting out of the roof of one of the apartment buildings at the Lakes of Windsor apartment complex.
IFD Battalion Chief Rita Reith says the fire was likely caused by a wood-burning fireplace in one of the units and that the person who lived in the apartment where it started noticed that embers from the fire had somehow gotten into the attic area above his unit.
No one was hurt in the blaze and all residents were able to get out safely.
