WASHINGTON–Indiana’s senators, Mike Braun and Todd Young, are both calling BS on Carl Berstein’s assertion that they “disdain and despise” Pres. Donald Trump. The two were named Sunday by Bernstein, the famed Watergate reporter-turned CNN analyst, as two of 21 Republican senators who Bernstein believes hate Trump.

“Perhaps half of the Republican members of the Senate despise and disdain Donald Trump,” said Bernstein, on CNN last week. “They were happy to see him lose as long as they could hold on to a Senate majority.”

Bernstein said those Republican enable Trump, suggesting they be called out by name, later naming them.

Bernstein claimed to get the information from talking with Senate colleagues and staff and White House aids.

“Republicans on Capitol Hill…are talking with each other now about the rantings and doings of a mad king. The word mad you hear a lot up there.”

Braun, in a Monday statement, said it’s fake news.

“This is more false news from a CNN political analyst as I was one of President Trump’s top defenders during impeachment and strongly support his legal efforts to ensure that every legal vote is counted,” he said.

Braun could be seen at rallies with Trump early in his term, even hugging the president at some points.

Young’s office said the senator does not hate the president.

These unsourced rumors don’t deserve a response. It’s clear Sen. Young has a great working relationship with President Trump that has yielded several historic wins for Indiana including a Hoosier justice on the Supreme Court.”

Bernstein said he believes calling the senators out will put an end to what he calls their enabling of the president in what Bernstein believes is an effort to undermine the trust in the way America conducts elections.
