HENRY COUNTY, Ind. — A man was shot and killed by a sheriff’s deputy in Henry County this morning.

It happened along I-70 near the Wayne County line, says Indiana State Police Sgt. John Bowling. He said they were called about a suspicious person wearing all black and walking on the interstate a little after 5:00 a.m.

“A deputies was sent out and located the suspect walking in the median,” Sgt. Bowling said. “He asked him if he could give him any help, if he needed a ride. For an unknown reason the suspect pull out a gun and pointed it at the officer.”

Bowling said shots were fired. 

“The suspect was hit, the officer was not,” he continued. “The officer immediately started rendering first aid and an ambulance was called. The suspect was take to a Henry County hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.”

Indiana State Police are still investigating.
