Apology Keeps Carlino in Indy Democratic Caucus

INDIANAPOLIS — City-County Councilor Crista Carlino is still part of the Democratic caucus after apologizing for comments about how the city handled a sexual harassment investigation.
Earlier this week, Carlino called on Mayor Joe Hogsett to resign and said two council leaders should step down. She led the committee reviewing how the mayor’s office responded to claims involving former chief of staff Thomas Cook and said the review didn’t go far enough.
The caucus voted to remove her, but before it became official, Carlino apologized. The caucus later confirmed she would remain a member.
On Thursday, Carlino said she stepped down from leadership roles on several committees, including the one handling the investigation. She said she still believes she’s a member of those committees.
After a public meeting, Carlino said she’s ready to keep working. Councilor Ron Gibson said the focus now is on moving forward and serving the community.
