NEW HAVEN and COLUMBIA CITY, Ind. — Baby boxes are opening at fire stations in Columbia City and New Haven.

On Sunday, a Safe Haven Baby Box will open at the New Haven Fire Station on Hartzell Road, and then on Monday, the Columbia City Fire Station on South Chauncey Street will be getting a Baby Box, said WANE-TV.

With the new Baby Boxes, there will be 23 nationwide. Nineteen of those baby boxes are in Indiana.

Safe Haven Baby Boxes let parents surrender newborn babies anonymously. The box then notifies 911 and the box locks as soon as the baby is placed inside.

The boxes do have heating and cooling features.
