INDIANAPOLIS — Indy Metro Police have identified the man accused of firing shots at officers during a weekend traffic stop.

Dillon Grant, 24, fired at least one shot at officers on Sunday. He faces preliminary charges of attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.

According to IMPD, officers stopped Grant for failing to dim his headlights while driving on East 10th Street.

IMPD said Grant started to pull over, but then drove away. Officers followed Grant to the intersection of E. 10th Street and N. LaSalle Street, where Grant got out of the car, turned to face the officers, and fired a black pistol at least once from 20 to 25 feet away.

The officers returned fire, said IMPD, but Grant was not hit. The officers were also unhurt.

Grant was arrested “a short distance from the shooting scene,” said IMPD.

A passenger in Grant’s car was interviewed by police and released.

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case and make a charging decision.

The officers involved in the shooting are on administrative leave while the shooting is investigated by the IMPD Internal Affairs Unit.
