BLOOMINGTON, Ind.-The Indiana Hoosier men’s basketball team led by as many as 22 in their 80-61 victory over the SIU Edwardsville Cougars Wednesday night at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.
The game was tied at 27 in the first half, but Indiana closed the half on a 15-3 run to take a 42-30 lead into intermission.
The Cougars got as close as 9 in the second half, but the Hoosiers would eventually push the lead to 22 and kept SIU Edwardsville at bay the rest of the game.
10 players played for Indiana and six scored. Mackenzie Mgbako finished with a new career high 31 points to go along with 9 rebounds and one steal. He made 4 of his 5 three point shots and 13 of his 17 total field goals. Oumar Ballo and Malik Reneau each had 15 for Indiana while Myles Rice scored 11.
Trey Galloway scored 6 points, but also had 9 of Indiana’s 18 assists.
SIU Edwardsville’s bench outscored Indiana’s bench 26-8. They also had 12 turnovers to Indiana’s 16 turnovers.
