CUMBERLAND, Ind.–One person was killed in a shooting at a Speedway gas station in Cumberland Wednesday night. In total, three people were shot.

The Cumberland Police Department says it happened at a Speedway on 10th street and German Church Road just after 7. The person who was killed has been identified as a 29-year-old man Daeshua Lamont Reese. They think there may have been a fight that led to the shooting.

“Not that this is a good thing, but at least it happened outside the gas station and not inside where it probably would have been a lot worse,” said Mark Waggoner, sergeant with the Cumberland Police Department.

About 10 customers, some of which were children, were inside the gas station at the time of the shooting.

“I can’t tell you how amazing it is that nobody else was hurt. The store obviously has some freezers in the back. Some of the people took refuge in the back freezer, which was a very smart thing to do. It puts a lot of things between you and the gunfight outside,” said Waggoner.

Police say at least one person has been arrested, but the investigation is far from over. The other two people who were injured in the shooting were taken to hospitals.

If you have any information, be sure to call Crimestoppers or the Cumberland Police Department.
