MOSCOW — Russia is going to withdraw from the International Space Station.

The new leader of Russia’s state-controlled space corporation, Roscosmos, announced during a meeting today with Russian President Vladimir Putin that Moscow will leave the International Space Station after 2024.

In April, the previous head of the space corporation said Russia would end cooperation on the Space Station in response to Western sanctions over the Kremlin’s invasion of Ukraine.

Earlier this month, NASA and Roscosmos agreed that astronauts will continue riding Russian rockets and Russian cosmonauts will catch lifts to the Space Station with SpaceX beginning this fall.
