LAKE COUNTY, Ind.–A man from Illinois is accused of kidnapping a woman in Lake County earlier this week.

On Tuesday, December 7, the Lowell Regional Dispatch Center got a 911 call about a man holding a woman against her will in a car.

State police say officers were able to find the car in seven minutes. They tried to stop the driver, but he drove off “at a high rate of speed,” which caused a brief chase.

The chase ended when the driver hit stop sticks that troopers had placed in the road. They have identified the suspect as David J. Stewart, 24, from Dolton, Illinois.

Stewart is facing preliminary charges of kidnapping, resisting law enforcement, criminal recklessness, and reckless driving.

Stewart was taken to the Lake County Jail.
