INDIANAPOLIS — The owners of a west-side sports bar are behind bars after an investigation by Indy Metro Police.
Marvin and Gabby Betancourt are the owners of El Chila Sports Bar at 6380 W. 34th Street.
Since Dec. 2018, there have been 29 formal incident reports taken at the bar by IMPD officers for everything from assaults to guns and drugs. In Nov. 2020, a man was shot outside the bar by two off-duty IMPD officers after he pointed a gun at people.
After complaints from people in the neighborhood, IMPD began an investigation.
Investigators discovered that the Betancourts failed to pay all of their sales tax and food and beverage taxes to the Indiana Department of Revenue.
Marvin and Gabby Betancourt were arrested Monday. Each faces six counts, including corrupt business influence and failure to remit food and beverage tax.
