Katz: Let’s Change The Way We Do College

Many of today’s college gradates have nothing to show for their university education beyond a sometimes worthless degree and a massive debt burden.
WIBC host Tony Katz has long had an issue with the United States college system, and Monday morning, he offered up a proposal to essentially change the way we do it.
Katz:
“A degree is not a sign of your abilities and capabilities. So I would rather students have two or three years where they are working jobs. I believe in apprenticeships; I believe in going out and getting a job where you learn a skill with your hands. Learn a skill that’s dirty and sweaty, and that skill would allow you to make a living so you’re not living in mom’s basement.
And why do we have a society that tells you you have to know exactly what you want to do when you’re 18? I want you to learn a skill and be able to produce for society, but you don’t have to commit to a lifelong career at 18 that may be of no interest to you at age 25 or 35 or 45.”
