Severe Storms Threaten Indiana Friday Evening

INDIANAPOLIS — Severe storms are expected to sweep across Indiana Friday evening, bringing the threat of damaging winds, large hail, and possible tornadoes.
The Storm Prediction Center places southern Indiana under a Level 4 out of 5 moderate risk. Indianapolis and surrounding areas fall under a Level 3 enhanced risk. Storms could produce wind gusts up to 80 mph, hail larger than 2 inches, and isolated tornadoes — especially in southern parts of the state.
Storms are expected to develop in western Illinois by 3 p.m. and move into Indiana by 5 p.m., continuing through 11 p.m.
Before the storms arrive, the day will be warm and humid with highs in the mid-80s and partly sunny skies. Overnight lows will dip into the low 60s.
Conditions improve this weekend with sunshine, lower humidity, and seasonable highs in the low to mid-70s — ideal weather for those heading to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for qualifications.
