Elkhart Co. Man Seriously Hurt in Dog Attack
ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. — An Elkhart County man is in the hospital after he was attacked by a pair of dogs on Christmas Day.
Billy Shoemaker, 43, was attacked by a pit bull and a lab/pit bull mix on Wednesday, reports WNDU-TV.
Police were called after the dogs prevented medics from getting to, and treating, Shoemaker for his injuries.
A sheriff’s deputy tried to distract the dogs so Shoemaker could be helped, reports WNDU, but he ended up having to shoot the dogs when they charged at him.
One dog died and the other ran away. It was later found and taken in by the Elkhart Co. Humane Society.
Shoemaker is being treated for serious injuries.
The attack is under investigation.
