FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. — After a missing Hoosier soldier was found dead in Missouri earlier this week, the U.S. Army says her death is being investigated as a possible homicide.
Sergeant Sarah Roque, 23, was reported missing from Fort Leonard Wood Monday. The Ligonier, Indiana, native had been a bridge crew member and mine dog handler for the 5th Engineer Battalion.
In a press conference Thursday, Major General Christopher Beck explained that her body had been found in a dumpster, though how she had died is still unclear.
Also during the press conference, it was revealed that a “person of interest” has been identified. In an update posted to Facebook later Thursday afternoon, officials with Fort Leonard Wood explained that a “person of interest” is now in custody.
During her time with the military, Roque had received various awards, including the Army Commendation Medal.
