Lawsuit Alleges Indy Police And Prosecutors Took Hundreds Of Thousands Of Dollars Without Due Cause
Tony Katz:
I’d love to hear more if there is more on this. But this idea that civil asset forfeiture. Is being utilized at FedEx hubs. WTHR tells the story that at the FedEx hub right, we’ve got it here at at the at the airport. They check packages. They. Dogs, they have all sorts of things going through the packages. If they find cash. According to the something called the Institute for Justice, the county prosecutor’s office begins civil forfeiture proceedings to keep the money. So, if I send somebody cash? I am not innocent until proven guilty? The city or the state is just taking my money? And then I have to fight to get it back. Is that what’s happening? Because if you’re a police officer who has done this. The extent to which you should be ashamed of who you are and the man you are and the woman you are is incalculable. I would tell you this to your face. Just tell me when. The story goes they take packages, run them past canines and if a dog alerts officers find cash the county prosecutor’s office begins the proceedings in an Indiana State court to keep the money.

Man, we got ourselves a lot of drama in the state of Indiana. I’ve got a mayor in Indianapolis who harbors a serial alleged sexual abuser, gives a beyond mealy mouth apology, that Brian Mowery, who is the leads the Republican caucus there for the for the City-County Council, who was on Hammer and Nigel yesterday and said the same.
It was it was a pathetic apology, and it was because he’s a pathetic man I mean. It was, it was, you understand that Mayor Hogsett said. It was beyond weak, it was as perfunctory, and I’ve referred to it yesterday as a self-induced “Mao” esque struggle session.
But that’s not what’s required here. What’s required here is an understanding of what did you know? When did you know it? Did you try and cover it up? Did other people help you? And if we had leadership in Indianapolis? Business leaders. We would get answers. You’re telling me that the heads of the WNBA don’t have a position on this? The Indiana Fever don’t have a position on this? No player has a position on this. None of the leadership has a position on this? The Simon family doesn’t have a position on this? We know you make deals with the city. I’m not saying no, but you don’t have a position on this. Smulyan of Emmis Communications doesn’t have a position on this. Where’s the leadership? I’m supposed to respect these people and respect these businesses, and I single them out. But I can name 100 more. Who’s the guy who runs Salesforce? He had a position on everything when it comes to the state of Indiana and RIFRA. Does he have a position on having a major office building, the tallest office building in a city with a mayor who may have covered for a guy who was a serial alleged sexual abuser? Really nothing. Just it, I don’t know, I think that’s kind of amazing. And when I say amazing, I mean absolutely predictable. It’s the Indiana way. It is a remarkable amount of ohh, let’s just get along. I’ve never understood it. I have never been in favor of it, and it is why I have never been invited to the table. Because getting along for the sake of getting along is a nonsense argument. It is weak, it is childlike, and it means that somebody’s getting paid and it ain’t you. The city burned for two nights because of riots and no one said “where was the mayor?”

No one. None of these civic leaders. None of these business leaders. Not a single one said where is the mayor? Where was he? Why wasn’t the National Guard called in? Cummins didn’t care. Lilly didn’t care. It’s beyond comprehension. And they still don’t. You don’t care about this. This what happened in his office, the questions about What is still going on. Are there other allegations that are going to come out? What did Joe Hogsett know and when did he know it? If he was a Republican, you would care. Because when Republicans want to actually clean up the streets of Indianapolis, there you are to sign letters to the Indiana General Assembly saying you “stay out of Indianapolis”, you’re in Indianapolis, you don’t give a damn. And people are gonna say to me, “Tony, you’re complaining again.” No complaint. I’m just noticing who these people are. The cowardice. No wonder Indianapolis has stagnated. And you say you, well, we’ve got all these sporting events coming and all these conventions. You mean the things that the past built that we’re still able to take advantage of? Great, Terrific. You think that happens with this kind of leadership?

This inability to look friends in the eye and say you’ve done something wrong to demand better? And now? You’ve got police officers, you’ve got law enforcement. As the reporting goes, taking people’s cash and saying “No, it belongs to us.”

You can fight to get it back, but it’s gonna cost you a whole lot of money, so we’re just gonna keep it. Is this happening? Can we get somebody to look into this please? This theft, man, we got issues. We’ve got issues even if the so-called leaders don’t want to talk about it. By the way, Governor Holcomb. Any comments about either one of these stories or you just gonna take one more trip?
