WASHINGTON D.C. — Indiana Congresswoman Victoria Spartz (R – District 5) was officially charged on Thursday for after she brought a gun to a D.C. area airport back in June.

Court documents show that Spartz was charged with “Carrying a Weapon in an Airport Terminal” which is a misdemeanor. They say TSA agents found a .380 caliber firearm in her carry-on bag while traveling through Dulles International Airport. Virginia state law says that it is illegal to carry a gun or weapon inside of an airport terminal.

Spartz’s team released a statement after the fact saying that the gun was accidentally carried inside her suitcase and that it was empty at the time. She was issued a citation and then continued on with her flight.

Spartz is scheduled for arraignment in the Loudoun General District Court on Septermber 20th. The Class 1 Misdemeanor of Carrying a Weapon in an Airport Terminal is punishable by up to one year in jail and a $2,500 fine.
