A man has deliberately killed a teen with his car over a political argument. The incident took place in McHenry, North Dakota early Sunday morning.

Around 2:30am, 18 year-old Cayler Ellingson was headed home after a street dance. Shannon Brandt, a 41 year-old man, began to follow the teen in his car. As Brandt got closer, Ellingson called his mother for help. He was hit and killed by Brandt shortly after.

Brandt called 911 after the fatal incident reporting he had ran Ellingson over with his SUV in an alleyway. He told officials he targeted Ellingson because of a political dispute. According to Brandt, the teen was part of a Republican extremist group and was calling people to come get him.

Local police say Brandt was drunk at the time. They are still investigating. Brandt could face up to 20 years for vehicular homicide, DUI, and leaving a crime scene.

Tony Katz says most won’t hear about this politically motivated attack because the victim was conservative.

“If this teen had been a democrat, or black, Hispanic, Asian, there would be no other story in America that got discussed…this would be the only story in America. This story will not get 7 seconds worth of coverage. We’re now killing people because of politics. When I tell you I’m worried about the election, this is why.”
