HANCOCK COUNTY, Ind.–A man was killed in a crash on U.S. 40 in Hancock County Thursday afternoon.

State police say Jeffrey Denton, 64, of New Palestine was driving a silver Chrysler westbound on 40 when he crossed the center line and hit a 2019 Dodge Journey at 1:25 p.m.

The Dodge Journey then overturned and came to rest on its top while the Chrysler ended up in a ditch.

Denton was taken to a hospital, but he did not survive. Two people in a separate vehicle sustained minor injuries, but police believe they will be okay.

Investigators are trying to figure out what caused the crash. Eastbound lanes of U.S. 40 were closed until 4 p.m.

Both drivers were tested for intoxication. Those test results are pending.
