INDIANAPOLIS — Fire investigators are still trying to determine what caused the fire that destroyed Greater Zion Fellowship Community Church on Nov. 26.

The building was deemed a total loss, according to the Indianapolis Fire Department.

The area surrounding the church remains and has been fenced off by the insurance adjuster.

Over the next few days, the insurance company will begin demolition to remove hazards and unsafe portions of the building, IFD said Tuesday.

Once the demolition work is complete, the investigation into the fire will continue and will include the IFD/IMPD Fire Investigations Unit, the State Fire Marshal’s Office, the ATF, and private investigators for the insurance company.

IFD said it is “unclear” how long the investigation will take.
