INDIANAPOLISIndyHumane wants to help you vaccinate your pets.

Kelly Diamond, clinic director of IndyHumane’s downtown clinic, says some vaccines your pup needs are rabies and distemper/parvo vaccines. She said the rabies vaccine is one required by law for dogs 3-months-old and older.

“The distemper/parvo vaccine is a vaccine that is considered another core basic vaccine,” said Diamond. “Just because it really helps protect against some very serious potential diseases.”

She said the parvovirus is a highly contagious disease passed between dogs and can be fatal if left untreated. However, it is very easy to treat.

She’s also encouraging people to spay and neuter their pets to help with the overpopulation problem.

“Spay and neutering pets can also help with some behavior issues, but also help prevent or kind of improve the health of our dogs and cats.”

On Saturday, IndyHumane partnered with Friends of Indianapolis Dogs Outside, Street Outreach Animal Rescue Initiative, and Indianapolis Animal Care Services to host a free drive-thru clinic at IndyHumane’s downtown clinic.

The event provided rabies and distemper/parvo vaccines for dogs at no cost to pet owners.

Volunteers were also there scheduling low-cost or free spay/neuter surgeries for dates throughout the summer and fall.
