INDIANAPOLIS — A mother and her boyfriend have been charged for the death of the woman’s 8-year-old daughter.

Kimberly Grosklos is charged with murder, aggravated battery, and battery resulting in serious bodily injury, while Derrick Dale is charged with neglect of a dependent resulting in death, said Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears.

On April 6, Cumberland police were called to Grosklos’ home on Kirkwood drive and found the girl unresponsive. Grosklos and Dale told police they found her unconscious in the bathtub and moved her to a bedroom where they tried CPR. However, the admitted to not call 911 immediately after finding the girl in the tub.

The girl was taken to the hospital where she died. Police were told she has recently received injuries to her body that appeared to be from abuse.

An autopsy showed severe trauma to multiple areas of the girl’s body, and that the injuries could have been from jumper cables, and that some of her bruises looked to be from being whipped. The girl died from being beaten and suffocated.

“During this quarantine period with schools closed, many of the traditional safety-nets for discovering and reporting child abuse are absent. It is imperative now more than ever that we remain cognizant of the most vulnerable members of our communities, especially children,” Prosecutor Mears stated. “If you see, hear, or suspect abuse or neglect, you have a responsibility to report it.”
