Storm Chances Increase Today with Gusty Winds

INDIANAPOLIS — Storm chances rise today as a slow front moves toward central Indiana, bringing hazy skies and gusty winds.
Showers and thunderstorms will develop late this afternoon and evening, with northwest Indiana seeing storms as early as 4 p.m. Most storms will arrive after sunset.
The main concern is damaging wind gusts, with some heavy rain and small hail possible. Winds will gust between 25 and 30 mph.
Highs will reach the mid-80s but feel closer to 90 because of humidity. Smoke haze from wildfires will lessen during the day.
The front will stall near the Ohio River Thursday, keeping showers and storms likely through the morning and afternoon. Strong storms with damaging winds and hail remain possible, mainly in southern Indiana. Highs will cool to the upper 70s and low 80s.
On Friday, the front moves north again, bringing more scattered showers and storms in the morning and evening. Some stronger storms are possible during the warmest part of the day. Highs will stay in the upper 70s.
The weekend should be mostly dry as the front shifts south and high pressure moves in. Showers may pop up late Saturday and Sunday, mostly in southern Indiana. Highs will remain in the upper 70s.
The Storm Prediction Center says central Indiana has a low risk for isolated strong storms through the week.
