“I’ve noticed that everyone who is for abortion has already been born.” – Ronald Reagan

Well, Pete Buttigieg has stepped in it once again! The Mayor of South Bend just proclaimed in an interview with The Breakfast Club radio show that portions of the Bible suggest that life begins at the moment of a child’s first breath.

Here’s what political heartthrob Pete had to say:

Buttigieg:

“[Pro-life people] hold everybody in line with this one piece of doctrine about abortion, which is obviously a tough issue for a lot of people to think through morally. Then again, there’s a lot of parts of the Bible that talk about how life begins with breath. Even that is something that we can interpret differently. . . . No matter what you think about the cosmic question of how life begins, most Americans can get on board with the idea of, ‘I might draw the line here. You might draw the line there.’ The most important thing is the person who should be drawing the line is the woman making the decision. [Emphasis added.]”

Biblical scholar and apparent amateur pastor Buttigieg failed to mention which book, chapter, and verse of the Bible makes that claim, so I decided to look it up. Here’s what I found:

“When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit…[saying] ‘As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy’” (Luke 1:41, 44, NIV).

The Lord Jesus Christ began his incarnation as an embryo, growing into a fetus, infant, child, teenager, and adult: “While they were there, the time came for the baby to born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son” (Luke 2:6-7, NIV).

“I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live” (Deuteronomy 30:19, KJV).

“If men who are fighting hit a pregnant woman and she gives birth prematurely but there is no serious injury, the offender must be fined whatever the woman’s husband demands and the court allows. But if there is serious injury, you are to take life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise” (Exodus 21:22-25, NIV).

Here’s a fun verse that talks about aborting children who are conceived through rape or incest:

“Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor shall children be put to death for their fathers; a person shall be put to death for his own sin” (Deuteronomy 24:16, NKJV).

Yep, none of those seem to be the verse to which Buttigieg was referring. Deepest apologies for my poor research skills. I’ll keep looking.

By the way, the interview got even MORE cringeworthy as host Charlamagne Tha God agreed with Buttigieg by adding, “I think that if you’re a man who’s against abortion, you haven’t gotten the wrong woman pregnant. I’m just saying, you’ve had some slip-ups. I’ve had a few.”

Quality folk on the left, don’t you think? I mean, they’re just the most charming role models for our children – at least the ones who haven’t been murdered in the womb by pro-infanticide Democrats.
