INDIANAPOLIS — A brief period of calm weather will give way to multiple storm chances starting Tuesday.

Quiet conditions settled over central Indiana Monday as high pressure brought warm air, with temperatures reaching the upper 70s to low 80s. Winds are expected to pick up in the afternoon as the high pressure weakens and a storm system moves in from the west.

Clouds will increase overnight as temperatures remain mild, setting the stage for a cold front to approach on Tuesday. Storm chances will rise Tuesday morning, with the highest risk in the afternoon and early evening. A slight risk for severe storms is in place, with the primary threat being damaging winds, along with possible large hail and an isolated tornado. Highs will be near 80°F.

Storms will clear Tuesday evening as the front moves south and east. However, the front may stall overnight, potentially bringing scattered rain and heavy downpours to the southern half of the state.

On Wednesday, the stalled front will drift north, triggering periodic showers and thunderstorms. Highs will reach the mid-70s.
