New Indiana Bill Would Make School Board Elections Partisan

The Senate elections committee took testimony on a bill to make school board elections partisan and require candidates to declare a party affiliation.
The bill requires candidates to be nominated in the same manner as candidates for all other elected offices, meaning they would have to go through the primary process.
Some supporters feel adding a party affiliation would shed more light on a candidate’s ideology.
“They want to know the ideology of these individuals that they’re voting for, the direction that they’re going to take the schools that they’re paying for not just as taxpayers but also parents who we really and desperately need to get more involved in their kids’ lives,” said Carlin Yoder of the Foundation for Government Accountability. “This bill helps them do that.”
Yoder, a former member of the Indiana Senate, joins Kendall and Casey to discuss the bill.
