Cold Snap Hits Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS — A clipper system will bring about an inch of snow to Central Indiana today, followed by clearing skies. Light winds and temperatures will dip into the single digits overnight.

“We are going to be quite cold here for the next 48 hours,” said Joe Nield, a forecaster with the National Weather Service in Indianapolis. “In fact, lows tonight may dip down to zero across Central Indiana.”

Nield advises residents to use common sense during the cold snap: avoid prolonged outdoor exposure and ensure pets have a warm place to stay.

“Common sense measures include dressing for the conditions, limiting time outside, and don’t forget your pets,” he said.

Temperatures will fluctuate over the next few days, with highs ranging from 30 to 40 degrees. There’s a chance of precipitation by Friday into Saturday, but it’s still unclear whether it will be rain or snow.

“For Monday, we are forecasting a high of 12 in the Indy area,” Nield added. “We’ll have lows in the morning around five degrees, with Monday into Tuesday dipping to around zero.”
