INDIANAPOLIS – A storm system from the Plains is heading toward Central Indiana, possibly affecting holiday travel with rain and snow
While the exact locations and types of precipitation are still uncertain, forecasters expect a wetter week, with temperatures dropping into the 30s and 20s by the weekend.
“Tuesday will be a good travel day across Central Indiana,” said Jason Puma, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. “We’re looking at sunny skies with a high of 43, so it will be a little chilly, but good weather for driving. On Wednesday and Thanksgiving Day, we expect a storm system to move into the area, bringing a chance for precipitation.”
Puma noted that some of the precipitation will fall as snow. The northern part of the state is most likely to see snow, while the southern part will likely experience rain.
“There’s still some uncertainty about the storm’s path since it’s a few days out,” Puma said. “Once we get through today’s weather, we should have a clearer idea of the track and the areas where snow and rain are most likely.”
Rain will begin Wednesday night, with another round likely Thursday afternoon. Today, a cold front moving through Central Indiana may bring light, scattered rain showers.
