Protecting Girls In Sports Is Always the Right Thing To Do
Danny Lopez is a vice president at Pacers Sports and Entertainment and by all accounts, a damn good one. He is running for state representative and is an unbelievably decent man and smart. Danny Lopez ran an about his opponent, Matt McNally, and about how Matt McNally was okay with the idea that boys can claim they’re girls and play in girls’ sports.
Gregg Doyel of the IndyStar tries to say in his piece that an advertisement that makes the argument that trans girls do not belong in high school sports is an attack on the entire LGBTQ community, specifically those who have transitioned or considering transitioning.
Tony Katz:
You’re telling these young children that they’re wrong and it’s an attack on the LGBTQ community. No, it’s not. Girls are not boys, and boys are not girls.
What Gregg Doyel is doing, and what so many people on social media are doing, is saying to young girls. lay back and take it. Gregg Doyel is taking the side of girls being pushed to the side. Gregg Doyel is taking the side of the great Caitlin Clark being pushed to the side.

Of course he is. As a matter of fact, I scoff at the idea that there’s another way to look at it. You, Gregg Doyel believe that we should play into mental illness as opposed to helping those who have it. You believe that because somebody else makes a declaration as person A, that person B has to suffer because of it. That is obscene and it is wrong. And Danny Lopez is right. And you, Gregg Doyel, are once again wrong and this is an IndyStar problem because what you’re promoting is the full-on abuse of young women in the state of Indiana. And I have to ask you to stop. We’re not talking about an opinion here. We’re not talking about a position here. We’re talking about your sports guy deciding that somehow he is the crown jewel of decency, and putting forth the idea that if you don’t allow boys to say they’re girls and tell girls they have to sit on the bench, then somehow you’re a bigot. That’s a despicable argument to put forth and it deserves to be pushed back on aggressively. Good on Danny Lopez. Shame on you Gregg Doyel and the IndyStar. Your argument is bunk and hateful.
