Nine Charged in Last Weekend’s “Street Takeovers”

INDIANAPOLIS — Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears announced various criminal charges for nine individuals involved in “street takeovers” in Indianapolis last weekend.
“Street takeovers” traditionally involve groups of cars blocking off an intersection to create space for exhibition driving.
Police were attacked by groups of people when they tried to break up the street takeovers, also known as sideshows.

Police say men with baseball bats threw cans of gas and oil at them. Several IMPD cruisers had their windshields smashed. No officers were seriously injured.
Here are the people’s names and their charges:
Itzel Aguirre: Criminal Recklessness (Class A Misdemeanor) and No Valid Driver’s License (Class C Infraction)
Angel Gonzalez: Dangerous Possession of a Firearm (Level 5 Felony)
Osmar Salgado: Resisting Law Enforcement (Level 6 Felony)
Ryan Weigel: Criminal Mischief (Class A Misdemeanor)
Trevor Rivas: Criminal Mischief (Class A Misdemeanor)
Sergio Melendez: Intimidation (Level 5 Felony) and Criminal Mischief (Class A Misdemeanor)
David Balleza: Resisting Law Enforcement (Level 6 Felony) and Reckless Driving (Class C Misdemeanor)
Eyby Serrano-Rodriguez: Resisting Law Enforcement (Class A Misdemeanor)
Roberto Shitt: Resisting Law Enforcement (Level 6 Felony) and Reckless Driving (Class C Misdemeanor)
