INDIANAPOLIS — George Nelson Sr., the owner of Pa & Ma’s Backyard BBQ, was shot Wednesday night near Dr. Martin Luther King and West 26th Streets. Police found him, but he later died at the hospital.
Police say they’ve arrested someone in the case, thanks to witnesses who described a car seen leaving the scene. That same car was spotted in a shots-fired call on the east side hours later.
Investigators matched the description and detained three men, with one now facing charges for murdering Nelson.
“Community cooperation is so valuable in obtaining information quickly and giving our detectives a lead,” said IMPD Officer Drew Brown.
There have been several recent murders in the northwest district. Brown says it’s heartbreaking to see families in the community go through the pain of losing a loved one to violence.
“It’s heartbreaking to see families affected by violence, ” he said. “In the light of that, it’s heartwarming to see our detectives and officers bring resolve to the situation.”
Police haven’t said what led to Wednesday night’s murder or if the suspect knew Nelson.
