SAO PAOLO, Brazil — A passenger plane crash killed 61 people in Brazil Friday.
Officials said the plane crashed in the yard of a home, but it did not hit any residences, and no injuries were reported among people on the ground. The cause of the crash is unknown.
Flight data indicates that the plane was descending quickly from its cruising altitude of 14,000 feet. For about a minute, its transponder reported losing altitude at a rate of 8,000 feet – 20,000 feet per minute.
Reports say there was an active warning for severe icing in the area where the plane lost control Friday, in addition to meteorological reports of turbulence and thunderstorms.
