Six Kids, Two Adults Hurt, One Arrested In Crash On Indy’s East Side

UPDATE: An IMPD report shows Tramayne Duron Harris, 27, of Indianapolis, was preliminarily charged with three counts of DWI; two counts of reckless driving; and one count of criminal recklessness-aggressive driving.

INDIANAPOLIS–Two adults and six children were hurt in a crash that happened on the east side of Indianapolis Tuesday afternoon. One of the drivers has now been arrested.

Investigators say it happened around 3:35 pm at the intersection of East New York Street and North State Avenue. There are businesses and homes in this area, which is about three-quarters of a mile east of I-70/I-65.

“It was a pretty serious collision. The vehicle that contained a female driver and six children connected with a light pole at State and New York,” said Rita Reith, Indianapolis Fire Department Battalion Chief Rita Reith. The Indianapolis Fire Department is assisting the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department with the investigation.

Reith says the two adults were transported to a hospital in stable condition.

“Three of the children were transported in critical condition and three of the children were transported to a hospital in stable condition,” said Reith.

Police have since arrested a 27-year-old man who is accused of driving while intoxicated. Tramayne Deron Harris is facing several other charges as well as he is said to be the driver that T-Boned the car that had the six children inside.
